Have any of you seen Alameda lately? I think we should get some pictures of his city and run a power point in the background. He should be embarrassed to talk to us with the mess his organization has created in California. What could he possibly teach us? PS -- he is doing the speaking gig so he can milk the non--profit for his family vacation.

I get so tired of people who don't live here telling us what is in our best interest, especially someone from CA., the worst managed state in the union.. Clean up your own back yard first, These environmental groups like Sierra Club that push a recreation only economy for our area don't give a crap about the people who actually live and work here. Tourism jobs are low pay jobs and they are only available part of the year. You can't provide for a family on 8 months work at low pay. Eco-tourism is a myth. It takes energy production for people to recreate and get to their destinations. I hope a lot of people go to hear this guy so they will understand just how bogus and illogical their talking points are and how devoid of common sense they really are. We already lost 200 years supply of good clean Utah coal and who knows how many decent jobs, not to mention all the "recreational" access to the area that was lost when Escalate got closed off, we don't need to be bamboozled again by this fool and these foolish environmental groups.

There is value in the disbursed pattern of State Trust sections. It is good that the State Trust Land Administration is willing to maneuver in order to maximize production. The problem is that when the Counties start trading out their SITLA sections in exchange for sections in other counties, the revenue which they receive is in the form of a royalty payment directly to the county's general fund. This is good for people who depend on the county government for their jobs, pensions, and health insurance, but I struggle to see the long-term benefits for a production-based economy.

Just 15 years ago, the USGS maps showed almost no oil reserves in North Dakota. The point is that we don't know what lies beneath the ground, or what resources, (like potash) may become more valuable in the future. It seems we are always getting decoyed into having the wrong discussion. Instead of negotiating away our last remaining semblance of sovereignty, we should be demanding the rights of Statehood. Not for economic development reasons, but because the supreme law of the land, The Constitution, outlined a system of limited federal power. The more power we grant to the Federal Government, the less we reserve to the States or to the People. While the immediate effect of these trades may equate to revenue for our Schools; as resources deplete, we will be left with less production, and will have taken a step away from the Founders' design and a step toward larger, more centralized, government.
